34 Years a Black Conservative Intellectual
National Review’s Manifesto rant trying to convince We the People to don’t vote for Trump was both disappointing and predictable – Disappointing, because 34 years ago when I became a conservative, without an intellectual mentor to teach me, I searched out conservative intellectuals to read during Christmas break 1982, my senior year in college. A year later I would enthusiastically cast my first vote for “Mr. Conservative” President Ronald Reagan in Nov. 1983 – yet I knew little about the Republican Party or what Conservatism was all about.
However, I did know at the top of my reading list was the magazine, National Review whose founder, the conservative intellectual, Bill Buckley, I also faithfully read in his weekly essays published in the Conservative Chronicle newspaper. Buckley’s 1951 conservative classic book, God and Man at Yale – was also my daily bread, my intellectual Bible. My first law review article written while I was an Staff Editor at the Michigan Law (1989) had a Buckley quote from his National Review as my opening epigram – “We eschew the recital of our credenda.” (10 years later published as chapter one of my first book, The Devil is in the Details). At the time I didn’t fully understand that statement, but his writings like Buckley’s magisterial speech always made me feel BIG.
National Review’s Manifesto against Trump was also Predictable, because all of the NR writers who wrote such vile vitriol against Trump belied a common leitmotiv, an ancient, arrogant, existential aspect of human nature – Envy and Jealously. Here’s a passage from Trumps 1987 classic, The Art of the Deal:
- “One of the problems when you become successful is that jealousy and envy inevitably follow. There are people – I categorize them as life’s losers – who get their sense of accomplishment and achievement from trying to stop others. As far as I’m concerned, if they had any real ability they wouldn’t be fighting me, they’d be doing something constructive themselves.”
Remember jealously was the original sin than caused Cain to kill Abel in the earliest Bible narrative in the Book of Genesis. All of the invectives against Trump were hackneyed – already repeated many, many times by Trump’s ideological enemies – the Socialists-Progressives, now the Conservatives (or more accurately former Democrats, now Neo-Conservatives), would gleefully join the fray, piling on Trump like the Lilliputians they are, while this Colossus rises ever higher in the polls while the American people love Trump yet the more! (Incidentally, the Left would never write such a hateful Manifesto against Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, or any Democrat Socialist).
Back in the day I was such a true believer that immediately after my conversion to Conservatism at Christmas break 1982 during my senior year in college at DePauw University, I began writing my own Manifesto (of sorts) – a two-part essay titled, Birth of a Conservative Intellectual, Part I and Part II.
What animated my burgeoning conservatism even more was that my two essays were accepted for publication by the Editor of my university newspaper, The DePauw. I was elated! But then I got a bitter lesson. Although I wanted to write a weekly op-ed, after publishing the first two essays, all of a sudden the Editor stopped returning my calls. Although I tried to get my writings published hundreds of times with Democrat Socialist controlled newspapers and magazines all over America, I was not allowed to publish anything else until 1994 (11 years later!) and it was then I learned the bitter lessons and tactics of American Hate and Hypocrisy the NR writers were trying to demonstrate to We the People in the dialectical syllogism –
We (NR intellectuals) don’t care what you think.
We will tell you what to think.
We don’t care what you think.
The lesson that took me about 35+ years to learn was that syllogism above is really true with about 99% of the so-called Conservatives or Republicans in positions of power; people that you will likely never meet – We don’t care what you think! Tragically in America the Socialist-Progressive Revolutionaries are the gatekeepers of all institutions in American society.
In the age of social media it is very difficult to teach young people anything today because they think they know everything. Today everybody knows what Conservatism is all about and who is the best Conservative. Everybody’s got the answers to bring America back from the cultural and moral abyss, yet America sinks deeper into cultural and society depravity. Everybody’s got a resume – Everybody’s got a book – Everybody’s got a Tweet – Everybody’s got a website – Everybody’s on payroll, but we need POWER!
Unlike the conservative apparatchiks of National Review, Trump has the political genius, instincts, mastery of human nature, and power and will use it not for his own self-aggrandizement, not to promote dead conservative theory, or to sell another book, but to ‘Make America Great Again.’
All my life I was told the Big Lie that the Republicans was the Party of Lincoln, the Party that ended slavery and helped end racial segregation in America, and furthermore, that they loved Black people. ‘Conservatism for All’ was all a Big Lie – It was only another form of Crony Socialism or Crony Capitalism, thus all of the NR intellectuals and the Establishment Republican power base ignored me for 34 years despite having wrote them all dozens, hundreds and thousands of times. To show Conservatives I was a serious intellectual, I even depleted all of my savings to publish my 9 books and over 2 dozen law review articles to promote doctrinaire Conservative ideals.
Since 1982, after 34 years of writing continuously, assiduously, (even to many of the NR writers of the Anti-Trump Manifesto), all of the Republican groups, all of the Conservative groups, all of the Christian Conservative colleges, all of the members of Congress, Presidents, all of the Republican Governors and State politicians, all of the Conservative Think Tanks, Political Action Committees, Academics, and Scholars… literally thousands and thousands of letters, faxes, email, Facebook, Tweets… The result? – NOTHING! Yet I, and tens of millions of Black Americans are to believe that the Republican Party is still the Party of Abraham Lincoln. The Party of Freedom, Justice, Equality, The American Way? The Party that gives a damn about Black America? The Republican Party and the Conservatives are all a bunch of phony, cowardly Hypocrites! And that’s why they hate Trump.
National Review has a poor track record of picking conservative winners, that’s why Trump’s America First Nationalism will Trump NR’s failed Neo-Conservatism and bury it… Ashes to ashes, dust to dust!
Why I am a Trump Man for Life?
I felt like such a fool. I thought the Republicans wanted a ‘Big Tent.’ 35 years ago I thought the Republicans wanted to broaden their outreach to young Black conservative intellectuals like me, but for over 30 years reaching out to them for an internship, a clerkship, a job in the Arena of Ideas, all I received from the Republican Party and the so-called Conservative intellectuals and the conservative Think Tanks, and the Conservative Presidents, and the Conservative members of the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Liberals of the Academy, was the big middle finger… The few notable exceptions were – Justice Clarence Thomas, Radio Host Dr. Michael Savage, and Professor William Wagner, President of Salt and Light Global and a few others… UNTIL a few weeks ago on 28 Dec. 2015 when I sent my latest opus The Progressive Revolution, Vol. IV to Republican candidate Donald J. Trump and within just two weeks not only did I get a wonderful letter of acceptance from his presidential campaign, I was told (and this is a first for me) that my book would be proudly displayed and made available at the Trump Towers Campaign Headquarters for all of his campaign staff, volunteers, and visitors to read and enjoy.
For the first time in over 30+ years of rejection and ignominy, I felt Big! – Like the great abolitionist Frederick Douglass must have felt after visiting the White House in August 1863 while advising President Lincoln to establish a Black regiment to fight in the Civil War. Douglass remarked, “… I felt big there.”
Regarding Trump’s respect given to me after 34 years of disrespect by the NR conservatives, I was speechless, I was brought to tears, but then I thought about that syllogism above I failed to learn decades ago after writing two essays and having my subsequent essays being inexplicably rejected by my DePauw university newspaper. This was the underlying meaning and hateful intent of demonstrative of why NR Manifesto attacks Trump in such a vile, venal, jealous manner and why these same self-righteous conservative corpses would never dream of writing such demagogic Hate Manifesto against President Barack Obama, or Hillary Clinton, or Bernie Sanders… Why? Because they fear and respect Obama and the Holocaust Democrat Party, but have utter contempt for emergent conservative intellectuals like me who 35 years ago crawled around like a dog and couldn’t get any conservative potentate to help me. And today now my son, Stone Washington, a Freshman History major at George Mason University – a young conservative intellectual lion who is more of a conservative then I am and who would love to work for a Congressman as an aide or clerk for a judge with a real outreach vision to Black America!
Look how far Obama got with help from his Progressive comrades like George Soros and the Marxist Academy doctoring his transcripts, hiding his communist history; covering up traitorous and criminal associates. Obama and I were born just 6 weeks apart and briefly attended Harvard Law together – just imagine America how far I could have gotten in my existential fight against the Socialist Obama and Holocaust Democrats if only the visionless, cowardly Conservatives in the words of Reagan “didn’t care who got the credit”?
Free Republic vs. National Review
FreeRepublic.com posted NR’s Manifesto against Trump and generated some interesting replies. One commentator I found particularly enlightening was from “Smoothsailing” who seem to understand that the root of NR’s servile Manifesto was their existential bitter Spirit, obsessed with envy and jealously against Trump:
- “If you observe closely what you will see that much of the vitriol and hatred coming Trumps’ way originate with warmongering, open borders Neocons. They hate Trump because he doesn’t have to come to them on bended knee to drink out of their trough and beg them for money, and support. He routinely ridicules the media where much of the Neocon power is based. They are concerned that Trump may not listen to them when they start to howl for another war or amnesty or whatever else their pet destructive policy is at the moment.”
Smoothsailing is very astute person for he understands that throughout history how so called intellectuals (or any self-appointed oligarchy for that matter) can allow the sin and psychotic nature of legalism to creep into their ideology where like in Jesus’ day the Pharisees and Sadducees wanted to kill Jesus because even though he created Judaism, the Jews, the world, and the entire universe for that matter, He wasn’t in their eyes an Orthodox Jew. Likewise, this commentator understands that the writers of the NR Manifesto utterly hate (i.e., fear) Trump and resent his independence to be ideological free from their irrelevant legalisms and Neocon shibboleths – That’s what makes Trump such a compelling, transcendent figure to the vast number of American voters of every ideological camp. Right now Trump commands numbers even the great Ronald Reagan couldn’t match including 25% Black Americans enthusiastically supporting Trump and he has yet to spend much money – Trump’s Love for Black America transcends money. By comparison, NR’s idol, Ronald Reagan only got 10% of the Black vote.
NR’s Manifesto will only make Trump Triumph as POTUS
Breitbart writer Michelle Fields wrote a wonderful article on National Review’s Hate Manifesto against Republican frontrunner Donald Trump and conveyed that NR said he is “not deserving of conservative support in the caucuses and primaries.” The NR Manifesto has essays by many venerated (but cloistered, thus uninfluential) conservatives over the past 40 years including NR Editor, Rich Lowry, NR Editor – Jonah Goldberg whose phrase “liberal fascism” I borrowed for my 4-Volume opus The Progressive Revolution, an opus which one of my reviewers, Atty. Ann Fishman wrote – “Ellis Washington is the Thomas Sowell of his generation.” Ironically I’ve reached out to Dr. Thomas Sowell for over 30 years and never have received a reply other than a letter in 1994 giving me several writing sources I might consult presumably to become a better writer… Ouch! (I published my first scholarly essay 2 months later in a new scholarly conservative journal [The Social Critic] without his help). Compare Dr. Thomas Sowell’s cold reply to the one I received from Donald Trump a few weeks ago and you will understand why conservative intellectuals and establishment types like Lowry, Goldberg, Sowell, and the 19 other Manifesto apparatchiks utterly hate Trump and why I, and We the People in America love him, because Trump loves America!
Don’t bother reading NR’s hateful rant against Trump. The general themes are contained in this quote: “Trump is a philosophically unmoored political opportunist who would trash the broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP in favor of a free-floating populism with strong-man overtones.”
To Hell with Conservatism – Trump is a Nationalist! AMERICA FIRST – is his motto and should be the motto of every member of Congress and Conservative Republican in America. The Manifesto writers think no great leader ever changed his mind. Even God changed his mind regarding his anger at Israel’s repeated idolatry and but for Moses’s prayerful intervention God was going to kill everyone and start a new line of “Jews” with Moses as Generation One.
Here’a another passage where the legalistic Manifesto writers contend like the hypocritical, self-righteous Pharisees and Sadducees of Jesus’ day that Trump’s ideology doesn’t comport with his political opinions:
- “Trump’s political opinions have wobbled all over the lot. The real-estate mogul and reality-TV star has supported abortion, gun control, single-payer health care à la Canada, and punitive taxes on the wealthy… Since declaring his candidacy he has taken a more conservative line, yet there are great gaping holes in it.”
America, listen to the Siren Song of Socialism Slaves – “You can’t do that!” “We can’t do that!” “The Republicans won’t do that!” America can’t do that.” “The Democrats won’t let you do that.” “The Supreme Court will overrule that.” These are the words of slaves, and if they like NR Manifesto writers call themselves conservatives, then these are the words of Conservative Slaves and thus music to the ears of Progressives because even though they are in the minority in Congress their worldview has hegemony over the cowardly Conservatives in Congress who are afraid to use the vast powers given to them by the U.S. Constitution and by We the People. Why? Because the Conservative apparatchiks in Congress have an irrational, psychotic fear of being called “racist” or using their constitutional powers to control Obama’s tyranny by controlling annual budgetary spending. But We the People must use the federal purse strings to check and balance Obama’s Socialism Slavery and if 17% of the government “shuts down” then so be it! President Trump will not be so afraid to use all of his constitutional powers to “Make America Great Again.” I guarantee it.
Nevertheless, these self-righteous NR Manifesto writers all criticize Trump’s immigration plan as not being practical and cling to their cold, dead, legalistic, powerless conservatism as a drowning man clings to a boulder in the middle of the ocean:
- “As for illegal immigration, Trump pledges to deport the 11 million illegals here in the United States, a herculean administrative and logistical task beyond the capacity of the federal government. Trump piles on the absurdity by saying he would re-import many of the illegal immigrants once they had been deported, which makes his policy a poorly disguised amnesty (and a version of a similarly idiotic idea that appeared in one of Washington’s periodic ‘comprehensive immigration’ reforms). This plan wouldn’t survive its first contact with reality.”
Trump Rising: Trump is now beating Ted Cruz by 15 points in Iowa.
Virtually all political commentators predict a Trump win in Iowa is a win would compel him like Reagan in 1984 to run the tables and secure the GOP presidential nomination.
I love America. I came up out of the worsts ghettos in Detroit, one step away from the gutter. I came of age during the anarchy of the Detroit Race Riots of July 1967. Looking back over my intellectual development, I believe instead of age 21, I would have become a political conservative at age 5 when I first ascended the stairs of The Madame C.J. Walker Branch of the Detroit Public Library, in the ghettos of Detroit. What prevented me? Had I known just one conservative Man-of-Action, just one Man-of-Respect who would have took the time to teach me about American exceptionalism, Conservatism, and Capitalism, I would have been a Senator Joe McCarthy Warrior at age 5.
Back then the Republicans were known as “The Stupid Party.” In other words, they had all the right-sounding, political, intellectual, moral, economic, business, even historical ideas, but were too stupid to convince others that their way was best for the individual’s life and best for America. Why? Because unlike the Democrats, most Ivy-League educated, effete Republicans like the NR Manifesto writers would never touch or talk to a little Black ghetto boy like me in the 1960s.
How do I know this? Because self-righteous conservative apparatchiks didn’t help me at age 5 and they won’t help me get an academic faculty or Think Tank Fellow position at age 55. At least Trump wrote me a letter and promotes my book to his people. Maybe I can work in his administration? Nevertheless, look at the future President Donald J. Trump, thronged by the masses in the picture above and tell me who won the hearts and minds of America – NR Manifesto writers or Trump?
Also, most of these effete conservative apparatchiks never even ran a damn lemonade stand or ever had a newspaper route, yet they have the arrogance to give Trump lessons on capitalism and feel qualified to criticize his business record as a multi-billionaire with skyscrapers all over the world:
- “Trump’s primary work long ago became less about building anything than about branding himself and tending to his celebrity through a variety of entertainment ventures, from WWE to his reality-TV show, The Apprentice. His business record reflects the often dubious norms of the milieu: using eminent domain to condemn the property of others; buying the good graces of politicians – including many Democrats – with donations.”
The editorial finishes by saying that “Donald Trump is a menace to American conservatism who would take the work of generations and trample it underfoot in behalf of a populism as heedless and crude as the Donald himself.” My retort that statement is yes Trump is popular, but he’s not a doctrinaire Populist, he is more of a Nationalist than a Populist or Conservative. His motto that has compelled him even above the great Ronald Reagan is – AMERICA FIRST!
1988: George H.W. Bush-Donald Trump Ticket?
Did you know that 28 years ago Trump was asked by a senior aide to George H.W. Bush to consider being his running mate for V.P. in the 1988 election? However, Bush-41, the Progressive Republican Establishment anti-Reagan picked the great intellectual Titan, Dan Quayle (ironically a DePauw University graduate like I am). Trump explained in a Sunday interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” that his potential candidacy was an idea first broached by Bush political adviser Lee Atwater, who Trump said approached him. Trump said Atwater was “a great guy and an absolute friend, and he did ask me about it and say, ‘Would you at all consider it?'”
But that was the last time the two talked about it, Trump said. “I said, ‘I don’t know, Lee. Check it out, take a look at it, and if it works, I guess I would certainly consider it,'” Trump said. “But it never really went much further than that.”
Talk about a missed opportunity – Can you imagine how different America would have been, how infinitely better, more peaceful (Trump fought against Bush-43’s ill-conceived Iraq War from day-one), and unified the world would have been with a V.P. Trump for two terms followed by a two-term President Trump who would have served (1996-2004, assuming Bush-41 served 2-terms)?
There would have been no Bill Clinton scandals/murders/corruption in giving all of our weapons and computer technology to China. No Hillary Clinton Benghazi scandals/murders/ and Clinton Crime Family Foundation corruption where their illegal slush fund is raking in hundreds of millions in speaking fees and geopolitical bribes from a litany of corrupt Third World tyrants. And last but not least if George H.W. Bush had the vision to pick Donald Trump as his V.P. back in 1988, America and the world would never have been cursed with the rise of the Socialist apparatchik, Barack Hussein Obama to plague America for 8 years with his vile brand of Marxism-Alinsky-ISIS politics rooted in Evolution Atheism and baby body parts genocide.
History without Clintons or Obama: During the 1988 Republican campaign Bush Senior advisor Lee Atwater suggested Trump as the V.P. for George H.W. Bush, but H.W. Bush didn’t follow through.
Prophet King Solomon could have been writing about George H.W. Bush on this tragically missed opportunity of not choosing Trump as his V.P.: “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” The Progressive Revolution has caused America (and the world) to perish.
Trump has a vision to free America from the slave chains of Obama Socialism and Evolution Atheism – To ‘Make America Great Again,’ therefore all of the conservative NR Slavemasters are compelled to hate Trump because they fear him. Why? Because Trump cannot be bought. They cannot control him. Trump is only beholden to the U.S. Constitution and to We the People. Nothing more!
Finally, remember the wise words of Fox News TV host, Andrea Tantaros about the ignominious legacy of National Review, “NRO endorsed Romney [2008] and McCain [2010] and gave us George W. Bush’s wars, huge deficits, amnesty, bailouts. They helped create Trump’s Rise.”
